Bill Handley will be playing the Rev Frederick Chasuble in our production of The Importance of Being Earnest.
Country Rector Chasuble’s conflicted feelings about his responsibilities as a churchman versus his suppressed romantic desires add to the theme of maintaining public and private personas – and double lives are the essence of the play.
Bill was in etc’s first production playing the shrewd defending barrister in Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution but his acting CV is extensive. As he says himself: “It runs over many years through the gamut of heartthrobs from Molière's Miser to Shakespeare's Shylock via Death!”.
“The Importance of Being Earnest is simply one of the funniest plays ever penned, not least because all the characters, including the Rev. Chasuble, have a certain depth and integrity. The lines are just a delight to speak,” he added.
